NATURE ATTRACTION – This Hawaiian Snowbush produces amazing changeable leaf colors on its lush papery leaves. Its highly colored foliage makes it a gardener’s favorite for an outstanding houseplant. Snowbush is easy to grow in bright, warm places such as sunny windows, atriums, and summer patio planters.
KEY TIPS – Keep moist, especially during the spring and summer. It is recommended to use a catch dish under the pot that will aid in keeping soil moist.  Full sun to light shade is sufficient. In the hot summer months it is recommended to place into partial shade rather than full sun to keep the soil moist. The more sun they receive the lighter the colors on the leaves will occur. It is more fun to change location to see leaves change colors.
SHELF LIFE – Water the plants thoroughly letting the excess water drain through the bottom of the pot(s). Transplant into larger 8 inch containers separately or together in even a larger container.
PLANT Preparation- Cut away any yellow or brown leaves or broken stems that may have occurred.  This grooming is completely normal and will take place as the plant grows.
POTTED PLANTS- Repot the plants into larger 8 inch pots separately or together inside one larger container. You can transplant one pot size per year in spring or summer up to a 12 inch container. It is recommended to use a catch dish under the pot that will aid in keeping soil moist.
Soil- They like bagged potting mixes for houseplants that will drain well.  Most garden centers carry various brand names with perlite, vermiculite, soil and sand.
GARDEN PREPARATION – If you live where it rarely dips below 45 degrees, they may be planted directly into the garden. If your soil is clayish amend it with a standard garden soil for adequate drainage.
PLANTING SPACING – If planting in garden or together in one container space 36-48 inches apart.
PLANT HEIGHT – These will grow about 18 inches per year up to 3-6 feet tall.
Water- Water the plants thoroughly letting the excess water drain through the bottom of the pot. Keep moist, especially during the spring and summer. It is recommended to use a catch dish under the pot that will aid in keeping soil moist.  Dry soil damages plant.
FERTILIZER- To maintain healthy leaves, use a well balanced fertilizer like Roberta’s Flower Magic Plant Food (M7503) once a month year round.
LIGHTING- Full sun to light shade is sufficient. In the hot summer months it is recommended to place into partial shade rather than full sun to keep the soil moist. The more sun they receive the lighter the colors on the leaves will occur.
LEAF COLOR - A unique feature of the plant is its ability to change color. In sunny locations the color of the new leaves starts out green, then maroon, then pink, and finally changes to pure white. If placed in shade, the leaves will turn green and do so as they age naturally.
Blooming – These do not bloom.
TEMPERATURE ZONE 10 to 11- When nights stay above 60 degrees you may place your plants outside and leave them there all summer long. When temperatures drop below 60 degrees in the autumn, bring your plants inside. If you live where nights rarely drop below 45 degrees, you can leave your plants outside year round. On the other hand they can remain inside the home year round too.
WINTER CARE – Plants slow down a little from November through April. They may drop some foliage though not much. Place in a bright-lighted room or sunny window.  This is often the best time to prune them.
SUPPORT – It is classified as a tropical shrub and needs no support.
PRUNING – As a potted plant, yearly pruning is recommended during late fall. Trim about one third or more of the growth off of any healthy branches. Also, remove small spindly twigs at base and any dead or damaged branches too. New growth will occur in a bushier habit.
GROOMING- Cut away any yellow, brown leaves or broken stems that naturally occur. Monthly misting with a solution of soapy water will insure glossy pest free leaves. Mix ½ teaspoon of standard liquid dish soap in a quart spray bottle of water, shake, and mist the plant profusely.
