Step 1
Unpack your plants immediately removing any packing material. Cut away any yellow or brown leaves or broken stems that may have occurred. This grooming is completely normal and will take place as the plant grows. New leaves and stems appear as the old ones are cut away.
Step 2
Water immediately. Water the plants thoroughly letting the excess water drain through the bottom of the pot(s).
Step 3
These plants require little attention and grow in about any soil type. Transplant into the garden as soon as evening temperatures stay above 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Water again. Plants prefer full sun to half day of sun.
Step 4
As a climber, they need a wall, trellis, net, or wire cage.
Step 5
Heavy pruning in autumn after flowering encourages more robust and bushy growth with more profuse flowers next spring.
