NATURE ATTRACTION – Add some nostalgic charm to your garden with perennial ‘Pearl Series’ Sweet Pea. Revered for their delicate flowers this new hybrid series exhibits bright shades of red, pink, fuchsia and white that bloom prolifically from early summer to late fall!
KEY TIPS – Using strong tendrils, this vine will vigorously twine its way up fences or trellises, ramble over rock gardens, and scramble over bushes and hillsides. It strength and durability is unmatched by its annual-type cousin.
SHELF LIFE - Plant in larger pots and place outside immediately after the night temperatures stay above 45 degrees.
PLANT PREPARATION – Unpack your plants immediately removing any packing material. Cut away any yellow or brown leaves or broken stems that may have occurred.
Water them immediately.
POTTED PLANTS - Rather than in the garden you may re-pot into large containers. Repot the plants into at least 12 inch pots separately or together inside one larger container. As a climber, they need a wall, trellis, net, or wire cage.
SOIL – Any type of soil works o.k.
GARDEN PREPARATION Pick a sunny or partially sunny location near a wall or where you can add a trellis, net, or wire cage.
PLANTING SPACING – If planting in garden or together in one container space 2-3 feet apart.
PLANTING DEPTH - Dig holes twice the width of the root ball and about 5-6 inches deep. Place them in their holes. Pack soil firmly around roots.
PLANT HEIGHT AND WIDTH – These grow about 6-8 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide.
WATER - Water upon planting. They require only moderate water and are drought tolerant once established.
FERTILIZER – They respond to feeding with a high bloom fertilizer like Flower Magic plant food (M7503). Once a month is sufficient.
TEMPERATURE  ZONES 4 to 9 -When nights stay above 45 degrees, place your plants outside and leave them there. They can withstand winter temperatures to minus 30 below 0 Fahrenheit.
LIGHTING - In the summer growing season, full sun is the absolute best. Otherwise a half day of sun is sufficient.
BLOOMING – Under correct conditions, blooming begins in early summer and lasts well into lat fall – about 4 months!
DORMANCY – These plants rest in the winter.
PRUNING – Prune hard after flowering each season to about six inches from the ground. This encourages branching.
SUPPORT AND STAKING - As a climber, they need a wall, trellis, net, or wire cage.
GROOMING- If not already making fresh bouquets, remove spent flowers. In addition, cut away any yellow, brown leaves or broken stems that naturally occur. Monthly misting with a solution of soapy water will insure glossy pest free leaves
