NATURE ATTRACTION – Wonderfully fragrant and heavily borne over a long season, this Dwarf Evergreen ‘Singapore’ Plumeria is the most sought after variety in the world. Its vigorous character, growth habit, blooming season, and fragrance are like no other Hawaiian Plumeria.
KEY TIPS – Place outside in summer. It is an evergreen with year round leaves never going dormant! No other variety can compare to its vigorous branching ability either. It will grow compact and bushy to about four feet tall and wide in as many years with countless branches on the plant from which to make your own.
SHELF LIFE – Unpack your plant(s) immediately removing any packing material Water the plants thoroughly letting the excess water drain through the bottom of the pot(s). Transplant into larger 10-12 inch containers separately.
PLANT Preparation- Cut away any yellow or brown leaves or broken stems that may have occurred. This grooming is completely normal and will take place as the plant grows.
POTTED PLANTS- Repot the plants into larger 10-12 inch pots separately. You may transplant up one pot size per year up to a maximum 20 inch pot.
Soil- They like bagged potting mixes for houseplants that will drain well. Most garden centers carry various brand names with perlite, vermiculite, soil and sand.
GARDEN PREPARATION – Plants should be grown in containers for at least 2 years. If you live where it rarely dips below 45 degrees, they may be planted directly into the garden. If your soil is clayish amend it with a standard garden soil for adequate drainage.
PLANTING SPACING – If planting into the garden after the second season, space them 4-5 feet apart.
PLANT HEIGHT AND WIDTH – These will grow one foot per year up to 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
Water- Water the plants thoroughly letting the excess water drain through the bottom of the pot. Be sure to keep excess water out of any saucer underneath pot. Keep moist, during the spring and summer repeating twice a week all summer long. Water less in winter allowing the soil to dry a little.
FERTILIZER- To promote more flowers use a well balanced fertilizer like Roberta’s Flower Magic Plant Food (M7503) once a week April through October. They enjoy leaf feeding as often as you like.
LIGHTING- Full or partial sun is best in summer. In winter months bright diffused light is more than sufficient.
Blooming – Be patient for blooms. Once they start they do so for about 6 months per year! Though some may bloom the first season, it is more likely they will bloom beginning with the second season from late spring through late fall.
TEMPERATURE ZONE 10 to 11- When nights stay above 55 degrees place your plants outside and leave them there all summer long- the hotter the better. The point is they like a change in day to night temperatures to grow and bloom properly. When temperatures drop below 45 degrees in the autumn, bring your plants inside. If you live where nights rarely drop below 45 degrees, you can leave your plants outside year round.
WINTER SEASON - In the winter months inside the home, plants slow down their growth. Water less in winter allowing the soil to dry a little. Although plants do not drop leaves from plants all at once, they do lose old leaves on a continuous basis as new ones appear.
PRUNING - After 3 years you can make your own cuttings by simply pruning off your own branches. Simply cut a 10-12 inch branch. Let it dry out for 2 weeks and plant it. This is not necessary but is well worthwhile as your original plant will also form two to three new branches every time you do it. Plus you’ll have another plant! The best time to do this is March -May.
GROOMING - Although plants do not drop leaves from plants all at once, they do lose old leaves on a continuous basis as new ones appear. Cut away any yellow or brown leaves. This grooming is completely normal and will take place as the plant grows.
LEAF CLEANING - Monthly misting with a solution of soapy water will insure glossy pest free leaves. Mix one half teaspoon of standard liquid dish soap and one half teaspoon of vegetable oil in a quart spray bottle of water, shake, and mist the plant profusely.
