NATURE ATTRACTION- A magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds,
it is a cut flower lover’s dream lasting up to two weeks in a vase.
Rabbits and deer leave them alone. They are great for garden or woodland
borders, masses, and container specimens.
KEY TIPS – Self-sowing freely give them some extra room to spread.
If they get cut back to the ground by mistake by the lawnmower, they
will re-emerge quickly.
SHELF LIFE – Plant in garden immediately after the night temperatures
stay above 35 degrees.
PLANT PREPARATION- Cut away any yellow or brown leaves or broken
stems that may have occurred. This grooming is completely normal
and will take place as the plant grows.
POTTED PLANTS – Rather than the garden you may re-pot into containers.
Repot the plants into at least 12 inch pots separately or together
inside one larger container.
SOIL PREPARATION – If your soil is clayish amend it with a standard
garden soil for adequate drainage.
GARDEN PREPARATION – Pick a partially shaded location that
receives partial sun or _ day of direct sun. It deserves a place of honor
and a large planting at that!
PLANTING DEPTH and SPACING - Plant separately spacing about 18-
24 inches. Dig holes twice the width of the root ball and about 5-6 inches
deep. Place them in their holes. Cover with an inch or two of soil
and pack soil firmly around root.
PLANT HEIGHT – They will grow about 18-24 inches tall.
SPROUTING TIME - Sprouts in spring after a couple weeks. In the
ground it takes a little longer if the temperatures are still cool.
WATER - Water thoroughly upon planting and keep moist thereafter.
FERTILIZER – This helps maintain flower size and count from year to
year. For best results, use Roberta’s Flower Magic Plant Food (M7503)
twice a month all summer long.
LIGHTING -Partial sun or _ day of direct sun is preferred to prolong
blooming.
BLOOMING – These plants will bloom mid spring through mid summer
yearly. TEMPERATURE ZONE 3 to 10- Hardy down to a minus 40
degrees below 0!
WINTER DORMANCY – After the first heavy frost, cut all shoots back
to about three inches above the soil. Plants rest from November -
March.
PROPAGATING- They self seed freely. Existing plants do not like to
be disturbed.
CUT FLOWERS – These make wonderful flowers for your cut flower
garden lasting up to two weeks in a vas.
STAKING – The flower stems need no staking.
